History of the Ritz now online!

We are starting a grand search to unearth as much information about the legendary Ritz Theater, our new home. We've started a Wikipedia page with our first pass of general information. We'll be updating it regularly as we unearth more data. If anyone else has photos, stories or history, please add to the Wiki, or send us the information directly.

We've also started up a Flickr Photoset for the Ritz. Currently we have a couple of photos of the Ritz it it's original 1/2 width configuration as well as an assortment of early ads for the Ritz and other vintage Austin cinemas.

We'll also be posting up images and updates about the "Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz" renovation project as they develop.

Hey Tim, I know there is some footage of the Dead Kennedys playing live at the Ritz. I think its on "Dead Kennedys: In God We Trust, Inc DVD." Also Henry Rollins tells a story of playing the Ritz with Black Flag in his book "Get in the Van."

I also noticed you said some signature events would be back, would it be possible to do one last Hong Kong Sunday?

Hi Tim,

I was at that Dead Kennedys show at the Ritz that Inframan mentions. 1985, I believe. It was wild, people dancing on the seats when there was no more room in the mosh pit at the front. I also saw Fishbone there, almost did my one and only stage dive, but chickened out. Can't wait to see the new space!
